Sheridan-Kalorama Call Box Restoration Committee
The Sheridan-Kalorama Call Box Restoration Committee has worked since 2003 to restore and maintain the sixteen abandoned police and fire call boxes in the Sheridan-Kalorama neighborhood. The Committee has been responsible for everything from choosing the paint color for the boxes (vibrant burgundy with richly gilded accents—each neighborhood participating in this city-wide project has chosen its own distinct color and themes for their call boxes), selecting a theme for each box, researching the relevant history once a theme was chosen, and then writing a brief description to fit on the plaque on the back of each call box, finding and contracting with artists and painters, and raising funds from neighbors to support and maintain the project. The Committee has also focused more recently on the development and improvement of this web site.
