Cecilia Beaux
Cecilia Beaux (1855 –1942) was an American painter who was trained in her native Philadelphia and in France. Her sympathetic portraits of America’s ruling class made her one of the most successful portrait painters of her time. She was highly regarded for her artistry and her output and was frequently compared with John Singer Sargent, often favorably. The image of Mrs. Larz Anderson used in the Call Box on The Gilded Age is from a painting in the collections of the Society of the Cincinnati at Anderson House in Washington, DC, and is used with permission.
