Michael Knud Ross
Michael Knud Ross is an American painter and sculptor who was born in Scandinavia. He moved to Maryland as a boy and was educated at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the University of Maryland. Ross lived in Washington for many years, where his work as a sculptor led him to the Call Box Project. He made sculptures for Call Boxes in Mt. Pleasant as well as Sheridan-Kalorama and worked with other groups to restore deteriorated Call Boxes throughout the city. After studying in Norway with the painter Odd Nerdrum, he moved to San Francisco, where he continues to live. Recent work includes narrative figure painting and paintings of birds and wetlands. For Sheridan-Kalorama he produced distinctive sculptures for the Call Boxes on Educational Institutions, Police Services, and Fire Services.
